Ruby mines are found in Burma, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Kabul (Afghanistan), Tanganyika, and
South India. They are also found in mines of upper Burma located in Mogok, which are of
crimson red and are believed to be of the highest quality. Rubies found in Thailand are of an
inferior quality.
Kabul rubies are brittle, with white spots, though they have a fine color. Rubies found in South
India at Kangiyan are of a dull red color and dirty with dark blue and pale tint
